FAQ
Here we post answers to questions that come in and might be interesting for everyone.
What should I bring?
You should obviously bring clothes for warm and even hot weather (average temperatures for June and July are highs in the mid and upper 20s (degrees celcius), low in the 10s (degrees celcius). Generally the dress code will be "grad school casual" (including dinners). Bring a laptop computer 8see below), the reading material that was sent to you, and notebooks, pens, pencils, etc. You may want to bring a swimsuit and athletic clothes for the facilities around the campus.
What are the rooms like?
The rooms are standard double hotel bedrooms. Towels and bedclothes are provided. More information on the rooms can be found here.
Do I need to bring my own computer?
Having your own computer is definitely an advantage, as you'll be more flexible in planning your working time, checking your private mail during your free time etc. A wireless antenna/card will be necessary to access the internet everywhere except your dorm room. There is wireless service over all Mannheim's campus as well as in the hotel rooms.
Is there any special software I should have loaded on my computer?
As we will be working in a computer lab with all the necessary software, this is not a must. It still probably pays off having "R" on your computer, which is open source and easy to obtain via www.r-project.org.
How do I connect to the wireless network when I get to Mannheim?
We are still working on it, but most probably we'll request your physical address (macs) from your notebooks and filter them.
How will I print while at EITM Europe at Mannheim?
You will receive a university electronic payment card which can also be used to print documents at the faculty's library. You will receive further details at the information seminar on your day of arrival.
What will be may mailing address and phone number while I am staying at Mannheim?
P.O. Box 103462D-68163 Mannheim(+49)-(0)621-181-2072
